8.4　Coal Yard and Relevant Facilities

8.4.1　The total storage capacity of the coal yard shall be determined based on the transportation conditions and incoming coal quality，and comply with the following requirements:

1　For power plants that receive coal transported by national trunk railway，the capacity shall not be less than 15 days'coal consumption.

2　For power plants that receive coal transported by road or coal belt conveyor rather than through national trunk railway（except those which receive coal from the exclusive source），the capacity should accommodate five to ten days'coal consumption.In some regions，the capacity may be appropriately increased according to the local meteorological conditions.

3　For power plants that receive coal transported by waterway，the capacity shall be determined assuming the maximum possible transportation interruption duration，and shall not be less than 15 days'coal consumption.

4　For power plants firing lignite，the capacity should not be more than 10 days'coal consumption if no effective measure is taken to prevent spontaneous combustion.

5　For cogeneration units，the capacity shall be based on the above standards plus five days'coal consumption.

8.4.2　For power plants located in rainy areas，dry coal sheds shall be provided based on the coal characteristics，combustion system and arrangement of facilities in coal yard，the capacity of which should not be less than four days'coal consumption.For power plants firing viscous coal，the capacity of the dry coal shed may be increased appropriately.For power plants equipped with CFB boiler，the capacity of the dry coal shed should be four to ten days'coal consumption.

8.4.3　The output and quantity of facilities in coal yard shall comply with the following requirements:

1　The stacking capacity of the coal storage facilities shall be adaptable to the capacity of unloading facilities；the coal reclaiming capacity shall be equal to that of the coal handling system of the boiler house.

2　When only one stacker-reclaimer is provided for the coal yard，there shall be standby coal feeding facilities with an output not less than that of coal handling system delivering coal to the boiler house.When machineries，such as coal bulldozers and wheel loaders，are used as the main equipment of coal yard，one standby machine shall be provided.

3　The total rated output of multi-purpose gantry/bridge type coal grab shall not be less than 250% of the total coal consumption，the output of coal unloading equipment，or the output of coal handling system，whichever is the largest.No standby is required.However，one coal bulldozer may be provided at the coal yard for auxiliary operation.

8.4.4　In places with stringent environmental protection requirements or at confined site，enclosed or semienclosed coal yards or the outdoor coal yard equipped with wind and dust nets may be provided.

8.4.5　The capacity of the cylindrical silos used for coal blending or buffering purpose should be one day's coal consumption by the power plant.

8.4.6　If the physical property of coal is such that cylindrical silos are suitable to be used for coal storage，anti-clogging measures shall be provided.If the silos are used to store lignite or coal containing high volatile matters and prone to spontaneous ignition，anti-explosion，ventilation，temperature monitoring，and water spraying measures shall be provided，and the coal storage period shall be strictly controlled.
