Abstract
Developing cultural trade is one of our national strategies, and there are many studies on this topic. However, there is still lack of comprehensive and systematic introduction and analysis of the whole picture about China’s cultural trade till now. This report takes the angle of international competitiveness, combines all kinds of data sources, and provides a solid foundation for further systematic analysis on China’s cultural trade.
The first part of this report introduces the significance of cultural international trade for China,a brief view of China’s cultural international trade competitiveness, and a statistical analysis of bilateral cultural international trade with China. We find that China has strong competitiveness of cultural goods trade, while relatively weak competitiveness of cultural services trade. Part two shows a regional structure of cultural trade from 2000 to 2011. We find that the south-eastern coastal area still accounts for the major part of the cultural goods exports, while inland area is catching up through the cultural comparative advantages. Part three introduces the development and structure of main countries’ cultural industry and cultural international trade competitiveness. Part four is a case study on China’s visual copyrights international trade. We show the development and current situation about China’s visual copyrights international trade, the problems in the development, the US’s experiences, and some policy suggestions. Part five summarizes all national policies about cultural trade, including taxation policy, fiscal policy, loan policy, other financial supports and other preferential policies. We find that these policies support cultural trade stronger and stronger overtime, and cover more and more industries, regions and firms.
