Lily, 25, is from an underprivileged neighbourhood in Laos. She moved to China along with her mother when she was 8 and has lived in Wuhan since then. Her mother had recently passed away. Being unable to keep up with the rent, she decided to move in with her best friend Du in order to maintain a low cost of living.

With only 3,000 Yuan a month as a dish-cleaner, she simply could not spare a penny for the rent. Although the house was bare, it was still their sweet, cosy home.
