Foreword

Since Chinese is becoming more international，we Chinese teachers are trying hard to compile new textbooks which more match learners' needs today.Actually，besides traditional textbooks about speaking，listening，reading，and writing，there has to be some other characteristic textbooks to improve learners' interests.So this textbook Learn Chinese by Singing Songs comes into being.

On teaching the lesson Learn Chinese by Singing Songs for 12 years，I compiled this textbook.During the 12 years，I spent happy time singing Chinese songs with my students in class.Overseas students not only can learn Chinese well by singing songs，but also can strengthen memory through experiencing songs' rhythms.This textbook selects 39 Chinese songs and among which there are 11 songs arranged by the compiler.In this textbook，you'll learn traditional ethnic songs，modern popular songs，enlightening Chinese nursery rhymes and so on.In order to make convenient to learners，this textbook includes the following parts:

(1) Three levels: introductory course，intermediate course，and advanced course.Six units: basic Chinese songs，songs about Chinese customs and culture，Chinese folk songs， Chinese classical pop songs，songs of Chinese poems and enlightening Chinese nursery rhymes.

(2) Each lesson is equipped with Chinese lyrics，English lyrics and staves.Each Chinese lyric is provided with Pinyin (Chinese phonetic alphabet) .

(3) Appendixes in this textbook introduce some new words and terms.It helps expand learners' knowledge related to the songs.
