XΙE ZHENHUA

As China's special representative on climate change, Mr. Xie Zhenhua has been engaged in environmental protection since 1982. From 1993, he served as the director of the State Environmental Protection Administration, the director of the State Environmental Protection General Administration, and the deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission (at the full ministerial level) successively. Mr. Xie Zhenhua received the Global Environment Fund's Global Environmental Leadership Award in 2002, the UNEP Sasakawa Environment Prize and the World Bank's Special Award for Green Environment in 2003, the Energy Efficiency Outstanding Contribution Award of the Alliance to Save Energy in 2009, the WWF Leader for Living Planet Award in 2015, and the Lui Che Woo Prize in 2017.

PAN JIAHUA

Director and researcher of the Institute of Urban Development and Environment of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the University of the CASS. He is a vice chairman of the Research and Promotion Association of Chinese Ecological Civilization, a member of the National Climate Change Experts Committee, a member of the National Foreign Policy Advisory Committee, a member of the National Environmental Advisory/Science and Technology Committee, a member of the Beijing Municipal Government Expert Advisory Committee, and the chief editor of Urban and Environmental Studies. He is the chief editor of the Yearbook of China Eco-Civilization Construction and an expert with the Discipline Assessment Team of the National Social Science Fund. He was invited to explain the objectives of controlling greenhouse gas emissions to members of the CPC Political Bureau. In 2005, he was selected as one of the Cultural Masters and the Four-batch Talents (2005) by the CPC Publicity Department, and one of the first in the 10,000-talent Program of leading philosophical and social science talents (2014). He was awarded the First Prize for Outstanding Research Achievements of the CASS (2004) and its Second Prize (2000, 2016), the Sun Yefang Economic Science Award (2011), Green China People of the Year (2011/12), and the China (Baosteel) Environment Award (2016).
