摘要: Floodmanagementisaboutmanaginguncertaintiesduetocatchmentwideextremerainfalleventsand complexinfrastructure.Thekeyaspectstomanagetheseuncertainties,fromourexperience,areeffectivelyidentifying floodrisksandtheirconsequences.Appropriatecomputer modelsareessentialtogainsufficientknowledgeandunder-standingtoaddresstheseaspects.However,withsomanyvariablesinvolvedtoestimateorpredictfloodseverity,thea-nalysisandresolutionoffloodmanagementissuespresentsbigchallengesfortechnicalandmanagementstaff.Itisimpor-tantthatmodelsarebuiltbasedonagoodunderstandingofthephysicalsystemsandhydrologicalconditions,withthe bestuseofallavailableGISdataandinformation.GISandcomputermodelingarecommonlyusedforbusiness.Thispa-perdemonstratescore modelingexperienceswithknowledgebasedinformationintegrationtechnology,whichhasbeen successfullydemonstratedintherecentlycompletedNorthlandRegionalCouncil(NRC)PriorityRiversFloodRiskReduc-tionProject.Now withthelatestinformationintegrationtechnologybasedoncrossdisciplineexperiencesandengineering knowledge,itispossibletounderstandcriticalissues,achieveclearandtransparentscenariomodelingresults,examine systemcapacity,limitations,risksandconsequences.
