The Lenses

Cameras helps the HoloLens see and understand the real environment, but the exciting part is how holograms are projected into your vision. HoloLens see through holographic lenses. We see the real world through the device's lenses, and holograms are projected out in front of us, up to several meters away. This gives us a mixed experiencing by blending both real and virtual worlds.

The HoloLens display is basically a set of transparent lenses placed just in front of the eyes. When light is emitted from the camera, it passes through the lenses; the light is reflected in your eyes. These lenses use an optical projection system to ray cast the holograms into your eyes as particles of light. Each lens lets light pass through and create different images to create a stereoscopic illusion of 3D.
