The real need is for endpoints to communicate and the network is only a medium of communication. The endpoints on the network, in a typical network, are the computers, servers, printers, mobile devices, and other IT equipment. In the modern enterprise, these endpoints could also include building management devices, RF readers, and fire management systems, and so on. Of late, the number of end points has increased tremendously due to the widespread adoption of IoT technologies.
