Identifying the asset

Identification of an asset is essential for the business. After identification, multiple levels of security can be used for secure the assets.

Assets can be broadly classified into the following categories:

• Information assets: This is information/data about the organization. It can be in the form of databases, data files, procedures, and so on.
• Software assets: This can either be an application software that an organization creates by investing more time, or a system software such as an operating system, development tools, or utilities.
• Physical assets: These types of assets are hardware equipment such as workstations, servers, desktops, modems, fax machines, HDD, and power supplies.
