中国人民大学经管类硕士生学术英语拔尖班课程方案“英语版《国富论》第1卷精读和英语学术论文写作与演讲”

一、选课说明
经管类硕士生学术英语拔尖班“英语版《国富论》第1卷精读和英语学术论文写作与演讲”课是中国人民大学硕士生英语必修课系统的正常组成部分,拔尖班教学内容与其他硕士生英语教学班不同,但课时、课程学分、平时成绩、期末考试与其他教学班相同。此拔尖班主要供中国人民大学经济类和管理类硕士生选上,在本科生阶段主修经管类专业的其他专业的硕士生经过认真考虑也可以选上。由于此课是正常英语课的一个课堂,所以英语课提前过关考试通过的学生不能选此课。
拔尖班每学期只开1个班,每班人数不超过20人。第1学期和第2学期,都是周二上午上课,每周4学时。拔尖班学生在上课后第1、2周内可以选择调班,但不能办理免修(其他硕士生英语班可以办理免修)。
虽然原则上任何需要上英语课的经管类硕士生都有资格选上此课(如果选课超过20人,按入学成绩从高向低,录够20人为止),但鉴于课程难度大、研读量大、作业量大、平时要求高,同学们须仔细斟酌后再选。
二、课程简介
经管类硕士生学术英语拔尖班“英语版《国富论》第1卷精读和英语学术论文写作与演讲”是中国人民大学经管类研究生学术英语硕士生和博士生一体化教学的一个环节,是为经管类博士生学术英语拔尖班“西方学者和中国人民大学博士生笔下的中国经济与管理”英语学术论文写作与演讲课打基础的英语教学班,供经管类硕士生选上。教学过程中,学生在教师的指导下精读《国富论》,在获取思想的过程中把握语言,在把握语言的过程中获取思想。教师在学生感性认识智慧型英语语言的基础上,解析学术英语的特征和具体的语言技术。学生以智慧型英语风格和语言技术为指导、以中国当代经济和管理领域的事物为主题进行写作练习、在练习以智慧型的英语表达自己专业思想的过程中提高自己的英语语言能力。教学内容主要包括三个部分:学生按计划课前精读《国富论》,教师课上精讲智慧型英语的语言风格和语言技术;学生以所学英语语言风格和技术为指导用英语论述自己的专业思想,教师在认真批阅学生英语作品的基础上评讲学生作品;学生以课上报告自己阅读《国富论》的收获和分析中国当代经济管理领域事物进行英语演讲练习,教师讲解英语演讲原理,点评学生演讲。课程主要成果是学生把握智慧型英语的语言风格和具体语言技术,建立较为扎实的经济管理领域英语语言系统,为在经济管理领域用英语从事研究和其他工作打下较为坚实的基础。
三、课程宗旨
这个课旨在使学生以精读英语版《国富论》为例,感受智慧型英语的语言特征和语言技术;通过对《国富论》的学习,打下坚实的经济管理领域英语基础,为自己在经济管理领域中使用英语创造良好条件;通过研究《国富论》中的英语知识和以自己的专业视角用英语论述和演讲中国当代经济管理语言训练,在密切相关的语言输入和输出过程中把握英语语言的实质,掌握英语语言的生成机制,在创造性地使用英语的道路上拾级而上。
四、教学内容和进程
教师带领学生精细研读英语版《国富论》(Adam Sm ith,An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations)第1卷,讲述智慧型英语语言风格和语言技术,“插播”并解读关于当代中国经济管理的英语声像材料,指导学生撰写研读报告,指导学生以专业视角进行学术写作和演讲,批改和点评学生研读报告和论文习作;学生在教师的指导下用所学英语风格和语言技术撰写和演讲英语研读报告、以自己的专业视角论述和演讲中国当代经济和管理。演讲部分,学生进行3分钟的即兴学术性演讲,为现场用英语进行学术性沟通打下坚实基础;写作部分,要求学生充分发挥其创造性并完成500~3000英文单词的学术性短文,篇幅自由,以完整清楚地表达专业性思想为主,为能在博士生阶段顺利进行学术性期刊论文写作做好准备。具体教学进程如下:

五、教学方法
本课以研读和实践相结合的方法进行,研读为主,实践为辅,目的是让学生在教师的带领下向自己专业领域中“榜样”英语学习并进行实践,通过学习和实践把握自己专业领域中智慧型英语的定位、水平、叙事方式、描述方式、揭示方式、论证方式以及总体语言风格。研读以精读英语版《国富论》第1卷为主,以研读英语版写作理论著作和期刊论文写作著作为辅(具体见“研读教材” )。学生在研读的基础上把学到的理论和语言技术运用到表达自己专业思想的现场口头演讲和书面文章写作中。教师精细指导学生的研读和实践,对学生的口头和书面语言实践进行精细批阅和评点并提出细致的改进建议。
本课是英语语言课,但思想是语言的载体,因此教师对学生作品的批阅、评点和建议是语言和思想的集成。
六、学生任务
为实现设定的学习目标,学生需要在教师的带领下按课程进度进行研读和实践。课程进程中,除了按课程进度积极完成研读和实践外,学生积极参加学生自己本专业领域的国际会议,积极参与本专业领域的学术演讲。拔尖班学生积极努力参与每年例行的6月第1个周六举行的中国人民大学非英语专业研究生(包括硕士生和博士生)学术英语演讲比赛。整个课程,每位学生除了完成最重要的任务──精读英语版《国富论》并获取支撑自己专业性英语沟通的根基性语言能力和语言材料之外,还要以《国富论》的英语风格为榜样,用英语完成每月1篇的、以自己的专业视角进行观察和分析的、以中国当代经济和管理为大主题的短文写作。
七、学生考试考查和成绩构成
学生学习评价分为考试、平时成绩和学术性短文写作三大部分。在课程总成绩中,考试占50%,学生参加全校所有上英语课的硕士生都参加的硕士生英语期末统一考试(即北京市研究生英语教学研究会主持的北京市研究生英语统一考试);平时成绩占30%,其中课上学术性演讲占20%,课堂出勤和互动占10% ;每月1次的学术性短文写作占20%。
