FOREWORD

Healthcare issues are closely related to the interests of each individual, and receive attention from the society and the government.The unequal distribution of medical resources, excessive medical treatments and other problems exposed in the real world are not limited to healthcare itself, but also related to economics and management. Researching for the suitable, scientific and efficient management of Chinese hospitals from the perspective of economics and management thus better serving the people, has been a continuously-debated issue.

In 2008, School of Economics and Management in Tsinghua University established the“Research Center for Healthcare Management”, which involves in the research of health and healthcare management.In the recent years, we have seen initial success with persistent academic research.However, we do feel there are still many deficiencies.

The Academic Conference on Healthcare Management 2011 will be jointly held by School of Economics and Management and School of Medicine in Tsinghua University. With“Management and Operation Innovation of Medical Institutions”as its main topic, the conference will touch on areas including healthcare policy and hospital management, information system construction and application for medical institutions, public health and health insurance, community health and primary health services, medical safety and quality control.We hope this conference would be a platform for academic exchange, where studying the current issues of healthcare system could contribute to the scientific and standardized development of healthcare management.

As the first academic conference on healthcare management in the history of Tsinghua University, we believe Academic Conference on Healthcare Management 2011 would be a great starting point.Meanwhile, academic conference on healthcare will be an important and regular event on our future agenda.The aim of the conference is to strengthen the establishment of healthcare management and related policies, to increase Chinese and Foreign exchange and cooperation, and to promote further academic research and development of healthcare management.

The conference has received strong support from domestic and foreign research experts, scholars, and heads of medical institutions.We would like to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to experts of all levels, heads of Institutions and related institutions, on behalf of editorial board of proceedings.We also appreciate all submissions and contributions.
