匆忙（haste）是驾车的大敌（top enemy），除酒驾（drunken driving）外，车祸通常是由匆忙造成的。那天我开车去参加一个医疗会议。会议的时间安排在早上九点，我是主讲人（main speaker），早上8点到9点正好是交通繁忙时间（rush hours）。我怕迟到，所以比平时开得快。在街口右转时，我没有改变速度。不幸的是，一辆摩托车（motorcycle）从小巷（lane）窜（to dash out）出来，我赶紧刹车（to stamp the brake），但仍然撞到了（to run against）摩托车。好在我们两个人都没受伤（to be hurt）。

Today，there are many individuals in different parts of the world，who will cause violence（暴力）to achieve（达到）what they want.They are terrorists（恐怖分子）who disagree with the society（社会）they live in and believe they can only change it by violence.In the old days such people，when caught，were put to death（处死）.Today in Britain and other countries，there is no death penalty（刑罚）for violence crimes（犯罪）.Killing a person as a punishment（惩罚）is considered barbaric（野蛮）.Quite a few British citizens（公民）today are thinking whether perhaps the death penalty should be introduced（引进）again.
