Preface
2012 is not only an Olympic year for London, but also a special year for Beijing, a young Olympic city. It arouses our good memories of the Beijing Olympics and rekindles our passion towards the Olypmic sports.
The ‘exceptional’ Beijing Olympic Games is one of the great practices that our country and the Beijing municipality fully carry out to implement the scientific concept of development at the beginning of the new century. Promoting the Olympic tenets on one hand, a large developing country has inspired and united the national spirit, and accelarated the construction of economy, culture, society as well as conservation culture in the meantime. Beijing Olympic Games provided a powerful impetus to the scientific development of society and left behind a valuable asset.
After the Games, established in the hearts of Beijingers are not only the landmark venues like the ‘Bird's Nest’ and the ‘Water Cube’, but also the new terminal with a novel design, the increasingly convenient rail transportation and a whole set of mordern urban facilities, not to mention the growing openess, the improved ecological environment, voluntary services and humanistic urban management etc.
Most importantly, three concepts of ‘Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics’ have been sublimated into the city’s development strategy that is to build a city culture-enriched, technology-empowerd and enviroment-friendly. Beijing Olympic Games became fertile soil to form and carry forward the Olympic spirit with characteristics of Bejing. What is more, it laid the foundation of the Beijing spirit, a spirit that includes patriotism, innovation, inclusion and social morals, highlights the city’s, and futher reflects the value of the time.
Memory can be captured by the lens and history kept by images. Jointly Orgainzed by Beijing Olympic City Development Foundation, China Photographic Publishing House and Beijing Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the ‘Jiangong Cup’ 2012 Beijing Olympic City Photo Exhibition has attracted numerous domestic and foreign photographers. The images vividly represent the classic and touching moments of the Beijing Olympic Games, as well as their historic extension till nowadays.
Thanks to the photographers who are spreading the Olympic spirit through close-ups, showing the charm of Beijing Olympic Games by exquisite ideas, interpreting the inheritance of Beijing Olympic legacy from rich perspectives, and expressing the expectation of the city’s better future with a deep motion.
At the fourth anniversary of the Beijing Olympic Games, by going through every bit of the resplendence, let us look forward to the future, practice the Beijing spirit in our daily work, and make new contributions to the construction of a world city with Chinese characteristics!
